Several hours later, after Gina had left for work and housekeeping had been called in to freshen up the room, Sebastiani followed the instructions left by JOLIE’s security guys and turned on the hidden video equipment. When Natalia arrived, he handed over the key card and half of the $10,000 he had been given to pay for her services. He left her to her task. Walking to the elevator, he patted the sides of his pants, double-checking his pocketed share of the cash.

Chapter 27

O h crap, she’s here again. Sebastiani walked through his front door and immediately recognized Gina’s voice coming from the kitchen. He could have kicked himself. What was he thinking, screwing around with the girl next door? He had been avoiding her since their tryst at the Ritz Carlton two weeks earlier. He was so glad Mia would return to school in another week. She had been home from college all summer, but recently, Gina kept finding excuses to come over and hang out with her. His entire family was perplexed as to why she kept showing up at their door. Although the girls had been friends when they were little, they hadn’t socialized in years. Now, all of a sudden, Gina was dropping by the house to “chill.” Ironically, he felt the same way as Mia did—Gina needed to get a life.

He knew Gina was worried. Stalking his daughter was her desperate attempt to hold on to him. It wasn’t working. Gina was starting to creep him out. If his wife and kids found out what he had been doing, he’d be in big trouble. He needed to get rid of her.

“Hi, Mr. Stu. How was work?” Gina greeted him before his family members even noticed he had entered the room.

Ignoring her, he went over to his wife and kissed her on the cheek. He glanced about the small kitchen filled with savory smells and one person too many.

“So what’s going on here?” He hoped his smile looked sincere, relaxed.

“The girls wanted to learn how to make my ricotta cheese pie,” said Anna Sebastiani, smiling proudly.

“I didn’t want to learn,” Mia said. “Gina did. I like to eat cheese pie. I don’t need to know how to bake it. And anyway, isn’t it supposed to be like a secret family recipe?”

“Mia, don’t be rude,” scolded Anna. “Gina is like family. We’ve known her most of her life.”

Sebastiani hoped no one saw him wince.

“That’s okay, Mrs. Sebastiani,” Gina said, coming to Mia’s defense. “She’s right. It was my idea. I can’t wait to see how it tastes.”

“I’ll tell you what.” Sebastiani placed his hands firmly on Gina’s shoulders and guided her toward the back door. “When it’s ready, we’ll bring over two big slices.”
